Authorware Web Player Support
[Support Center Home][Developers Center Home]

Requirements [top]

The AESDirect Demo and Tutorial are written using Macromedia's Authorware Learning System. To view these materials, you need to have the Authorware Web Player installed in your browser. There are 2 versions of the Authoware Web Player:

Plug-in: Both Netscape and Internet Explorer support the use of plug-ins to display embeded objects in a web page. The AESDirect Tutorial and Demo require that you use the plug-in version of Authorware Web Player.

ActiveX: Internet Explorer can use self-installing ActiveX controls to display embeded objects in a web page. The AESDirect Tutorial and Demo will not work with the ActiveX control version of Authorware Web Player.
You MUST use the plug-in version of Authorware Web Player and not the ActiveX control to use the tutorial and demo.

Solution: Follow the instructions below again an make sure you run the file that you download.

    • Cause: You have the wrong plug-in. You might have an older version of Authorware, or perhaps you downloaded the ActiveX control instead of the plug-in.

    • Cause: You have installed the "Minimal Web Player"
Solution: Follow the instructions below to install the plug-in making sure that you install the "Full Web Player".

  • Symptom: The screens and/or text appear to be cut off in the middle of the page.

    • Cause: Your screen is too small
Solution: Enlarge you screen size to at least 800x600. In windows, the screen size setting is found on the "Settings" tab of the "Display" control panel.

Installation [top]

Note for Internet Explorer Users [top]

The instructions on this page will give you the plug-in which will work correctly with AESDirect. The default installation at the Macromedia website will give you the ActiveX control instead of the plug-in, and thus the demo and tutorial will not work.
